Historic palaces in Napoli

Rome's historic palaces were mostly homes of papal families and bankers, and the finest are museums today. Villa Farnesina, in Trastevere, was built for the banker Agostino Chigi and frescoed by Raphael. Palazzo Barberini, with Pietro da Cortona's ceiling, houses the National Gallery of Ancient Art, and at the Galleria Doria Pamphilj the family still lives in part of the palace. On the Capitol, the palaces designed by Michelangelo house the Capitoline Museums. Many others, such as the seats of the Senate and the Chamber, open only on particular days. For now this category is mostly imported places.

The centre is easy to cover on foot; the planner puts the stops in order around the time you have.

Your browser will ask to share your location

It's only used to work out how many minutes' walk you are from each place open right now.

  • We only use it to work out distances, and we don't keep it. If you share a walk, its starting point in the link is rounded to about 100 metres.
  • No account, no history, no notifications.
  • Rather not? Pick the city yourself: it works just as well.
