About

NowVisit plans walking itineraries with a time for every stop, and gets you back to the port, the station or your hotel in time. Today it covers Palermo.

What it does

You tell us how much time you have, where you start and where you need to be at the end. The planner picks the stops, works out the walking minutes between them, takes the opening hours we know into account and gives each stop a time, including the time to head back.

The other cities you see listed are announced, but have no places yet.

Where the data comes from

  • Places: Overture Maps and OpenStreetMap (ODbL licence).
  • How well known a place is: Wikidata and Wikipedia, meaning how many languages cover it and how often its pages are read.
  • Descriptions: partly from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA licence), partly written by hand by us.
  • Owners: whoever runs a business can claim its listing and correct its hours and contact details.

There are no ratings or reviews, and we do not collect any. Open data decides how much a place matters, not stars or comments.

How we check the data

For a hand-picked set of places we have checked the coordinates, how long a visit takes and whether it is indoors or outdoors, and written a short description. Later imports cannot overwrite that work.

Opening hours we could not verify are marked "Not verified". A wrong opening time does more harm than a missing one.

If you find a mistake, every listing has a "Suggest a correction" link. A person reads every report before the listing changes.

What the AI does, and what it does not

The planner works out the stops, times and distances, without AI. A language model (Cloudflare Workers AI) then writes the text that describes the walk, using only the plan's data and the Wikipedia extracts for its stops.

Every text is checked before it reaches you: if it names a place, a time or a number that is not in the plan, we have it rewritten once. If it is wrong again, or the model does not answer, we use a template we wrote ourselves.

The model also reads what you write to the travel agent, to understand what you are after. It does not choose the places.

Your browser will ask to share your location

It's only used to work out how many minutes' walk you are from each place open right now.

  • We only use it to work out distances, and we don't keep it. If you share a walk, its starting point in the link is rounded to about 100 metres.
  • No account, no history, no notifications.
  • Rather not? Pick the city yourself: it works just as well.
