Churches in Napoli

Rome has more than nine hundred churches, and many hold masterpieces that anywhere else would be in a museum. The four papal basilicas are St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, San Giovanni in Laterano, the city's cathedral, Santa Maria Maggiore with its 5th-century mosaics, and San Paolo fuori le Mura. In the centre, San Luigi dei Francesi has three Caravaggios and Santa Maria sopra Minerva is Rome's only major Gothic church; San Pietro in Vincoli holds Michelangelo's Moses. San Clemente, near the Colosseum, goes down three levels to Roman houses. Cover shoulders and knees to go in.
