What to do today in Milano
What to do in Milan today depends on how much time you have and what you have already booked: Leonardo's Last Supper cannot be improvised. The centre is small and easily walked in a few hours, from the Duomo to the castle by way of La Scala. In the evening people move to the Navigli or Brera for aperitivo, an institution here.
Below are the classics not to miss and, further down, the places open right now, sorted by how far they are from you. If you are on a schedule, tell me when you leave: I will plan a walk that respects opening hours and gets you back in time.
The classics to see today
Duomo di Milano
The starting point of every walk. In the morning the security queue is shorter, and an extra ticket takes you up to the terraces to walk among the spires.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
The covered arcade between the Duomo and La Scala, a two-minute walk. It costs nothing to cross, and the mosaic bull tradition always has someone spinning on a heel.
Teatro alla Scala
By day the theatre museum shows costumes and memorabilia and, when rehearsals allow, the hall from the boxes. For the evening, check what tickets remain.
Castello Sforzesco
A quarter of an hour on foot from the Duomo along Via Dante. The courtyards are open to all, and inside is Michelangelo's Rondanini Pietà. Parco Sempione opens behind it.
Pinacoteca di Brera
If you have two hours for one museum today, this is it. Then you step out into the Brera district, all narrow streets and cafés, the right place to pause.
Naviglio Grande
Take the metro and walk along the canal before aperitivo, among workshops and courtyards. Sunset is the best time, and the Vicolo dei Lavandai is a few steps away.
Tell me when you leave: I will line up the stops that are open, with a time for each one and enough time to get back.

Frequently asked questions
What is open in Milan right now?
The list below shows the places open at this moment according to our hours. Where hours are not verified we say so: for museums and churches, check their own site before you go.
I only have a few hours: what should I see?
With two hours: the Duomo, the Galleria and Piazza della Scala, all on foot. With four, add the Duomo terraces and the Castello Sforzesco. The planner fits the walk to your times.
Can I see the Last Supper without booking?
Usually not: places are few and sell out weeks ahead. Check the official site for any remaining tickets, or look for a guided tour that includes them.
What is there to do tonight?
An aperitivo on the Navigli or in Brera, a Negroni Sbagliato at Bar Basso, or a performance at La Scala, if you can find a seat.
