Archaeological sites in Catania

Roman Catania lies largely beneath the Baroque city, and the ruins surface in its midst. The Teatro Romano, with the small Odeon beside it, is wedged among the houses of Via Vittorio Emanuele. The Anfiteatro Romano is viewed from above on Piazza Stesicoro, with much of it still buried. Beneath Piazza Duomo, the Terme Achilliane are reached from the courtyard near the cathedral. The Monastero dei Benedettini also keeps Roman remains. These sites are close together, so half a day on foot covers them all. Check opening hours before you go.

The centre is easy to cover on foot; the planner puts the stops in order around the time you have.

Your browser will ask to share your location

It's only used to work out how many minutes' walk you are from each place open right now.

  • We only use it to work out distances, and we don't keep it. If you share a walk, its starting point in the link is rounded to about 100 metres.
  • No account, no history, no notifications.
  • Rather not? Pick the city yourself: it works just as well.
