Museums in Catania

Catania's museums are small and tied to the city's history. The Castello Ursino, Frederick II's fortress, houses the Civic Museum with its archaeological and art collections. The Casa Museo Giovanni Verga keeps the library of the author of I Malavoglia, and the Museo Civico Belliniano is the composer's birthplace. For teenagers, the Museo dello Sbarco in Sicilia, at the Ciminiere, recreates 1943 at life size. Two or three can comfortably be seen in a day, on foot: nearly all are in the old centre. Check hours, which change often.

The centre is easy to cover on foot; the planner puts the stops in order around the time you have.

Your browser will ask to share your location

It's only used to work out how many minutes' walk you are from each place open right now.

  • We only use it to work out distances, and we don't keep it. If you share a walk, its starting point in the link is rounded to about 100 metres.
  • No account, no history, no notifications.
  • Rather not? Pick the city yourself: it works just as well.
