Attractions in Catania

Catania is a black Baroque city, built from Etna's lava and rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, and the centre is easily walked. It all starts at Piazza Duomo, with the elephant fountain, u Liotru. From there, Porta Uzeda leads down to the sea, while Via Etnea climbs straight towards the volcano by way of Piazza Università. A few minutes away is Via dei Crociferi, the city's most Baroque street, a UNESCO site. For the sea, the Lungomare di Ognina runs along the lava rocks north of the centre.

The centre is easy to cover on foot; the planner puts the stops in order around the time you have.

Your browser will ask to share your location

It's only used to work out how many minutes' walk you are from each place open right now.

  • We only use it to work out distances, and we don't keep it. If you share a walk, its starting point in the link is rounded to about 100 metres.
  • No account, no history, no notifications.
  • Rather not? Pick the city yourself: it works just as well.
